Free Shakespeare in the Park |

The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival's Free Shakespeare in the Park comes to Oakland Lakeside Park and its performances are absolutely free! This year's production is Shakespeare's last play, the darkly comedic play, The Tempest.
Shakespeare is growing increasingly popular in California and a number of theatre companies can now be found performing his works over the summer months. The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival company take advantage of the favourable weather and perform on outdoor stages in and around San Francisco, where the venues provide delightful backdrops. Productions are full-length, costumed and use only Bay area actors. |

Piedmont Yoga |

Visitors can choose from around 60 yoga classes taught by 20 different teachers at Oakland's Piedmont Studios, along with a number of workshops and courses. You're sure to find someone to inspire you or improve your practice. The entire faculty at Piedmont has trained in the Iyengar system of yoga: emphasising proper alignment, the use of props and an in-depth understanding of the body, breath and mind. Unlike its popular cousin, Ashtanga yoga, the various poses are often held for a long time, before gently moving on. This is not the system Madonna fell in love with to keep her sweaty and in shape - it's far too refined for that.
Visit the studio on any day for one of many classes. Every level of age and capability is catered for, with senior and pre-natal classes too. The studio also runs one-day workshops on a variety of yoga-related topics - including yoga storytime for toddlers and yoga for the menopause.
